In private practice in West Los Angeles for over 35 years. Dr. Perlman received his Ph.D. from UCLA in Clinical Psychology and a second Ph.D. in Psychoanalysis. He has published many articles in psychoanalytic journals, and authored the book The Therapist’s Emotional Survival: Dealing With the Pain of Exploring Trauma. Perlman has painted oil portraits of over 250 homeless individuals, right where they live. He collects their life stories, art and music. His Faces Of Homelessness exhibition has toured throughout Los Angeles County since 2012, covered all over the internet, major international newspapers and magazines (please see media page) and his documentary Struggle in Paradise, which depicts the lives of many of these individuals, won the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis' Best Movie of the Year award.
